Step 1: Make a note of your meter readings. There will be several readings, keep pressing the button and make a note of them all. The meter readings will also be found on the front page of your inventory.
Step 2: Find out who your provider is, please have you address and postcode.
- Electricity this can be found on: http://supplier.westernpower.co.uk/
- Gas please call: 0870 608 1524
Step 3: Call your utility provider (either electric, or gas, or both) and give them the requested information. Telephone numbers can be found on the internet.
Step 4: Your utility provider will give you a unique reference number and will tell you which local shop (i.e. Co-Op) can give you a utility key for electric or utility card for gas. This will also clear any debt on the meter prior to you taking over the tenancy. You will then need to add money to the key or card to operate.
Step 5: Insert the key into your meter and you are ready to go.
Step 6: Keep an eye on your credit level – you will need to top up when you are running low.
